Dr. Michael L Carlebach is Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History at the University of Miami. He has written four books on the history of photography, including The Origins of Photojournalism in America, American Photojournalism Comes of Age, and Working Stiffs Occupational Portraits in the Age of Tintypes.

He lives with his wife in Asheville, North Carolina.
