Lawrence Mullen is a Professor and Graduate Studies Coordinator for the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His work is primarily concerned with various aspects of visual communication and visual literacy although this work is at times injected with aspects from interrelated areas concerning the relationship between the media and community and political leadership. Some of his recent publications have been more biographically oriented. These include exposes on the founding individuals in the discipline such as Sister Bede Sullivan and Professor Herbert Zettl. His study of television director Joseph A. Aceti won him the award for the best debut research at the 2005 Broadcast Education Association Conference in the Production, Aesthetics & Criticism Division. Some of his other visual research has appeared in Communication Yearbook 28, Journal of Visual Literacy, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and Popular Culture Review.
