SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
To submit work, send one copy of your manuscript within an E-mail message to the editor. Do not send a paper (print-out) version. Make sure your work does not contain identifying information. Within the body of the E-mail message include the full name(s) of author(s) with full contact information (address, E-mail, telephone, fax) and a 2-3 line autobiography. Manuscripts must be double-spaced, use 12pt. type, and have one-inch borders. You may use Chicago (Chicago Style) or the American Psychological Association (APA) style (APA Style). Include an abstract of not more than 120 words. Manuscripts (including tables, captions, footnotes, bibliography, and so on) should total no more than 8,000 words.
For portfolio/creative work, send three copies of your submission on three separate Macintosh-formatted CDs (Zip or Flash drive submissions are not allowed) to the editor through the mail. Two of the copies must not have any identifying information.
We have no submission deadlines; submissions are received continuously, but they must not have appeared previously in print and must not be simultaneously submitted to any other publication while they are under review. However, simultaneous submission to and presentation at an academic conference is allowed.
A note about images: As a journal about visual communication, we are committed to publishing material in visual form whenever possible. When preparing work for submission, please bear in mind that we will need high-quality (300 dpi or higher) images and copyright permissions for use in the print and online versions, should the work be accepted for publication. As an author who wants to include images produced by others, you must get permission to obtain nonexclusive world rights in all languages to reprint/adapt the material for the print version and in any future print and nonprint editions or online uses. Depending on the particulars of your submission to the journal, you will need to download one or all of the following PDF files:
It is strongly recommended that you print out and use the forms in order to secure the proper permissions as soon as possible to avoid having the publication of your article delayed or cancelled. Avoid snail mail--signed FAX forms are acceptable. All submissions will first be assessed by the editor for their publication potential. Acceptable work will be sent without identification to two reviewers, who will evaluate the work, make a recommendation about publication, and offer a critique of the work. Reviewers are selected from among VCQ's editorial board of distinguished scholars, artists, and professionals, as well as from guest reviewers. Our turnaround time for a decision is about one month.
The acceptance rate is calculated from an editor's tenure. Since 2006 the rate is 32 percent. Editors are selected by members of the Visual Communication Division of the AEJMC and serve a three-year term that can be renewed. The circulation for the journal is approximately 600.
